At present, our organization generates Power for captive application in 3 locations, viz Durgapur & Raniganj (West Bengal) and Durg (Chhattisgarh). Presently, the Power generation capacity of our industry is at 71.1 MW, while we have started work to develop it to 111.1 MW.
In order to reach the zero-enregy loss mark, Power Plants are set up by us to recycle the waste heat gases which release from our Blast Furnaces and DRI Kilns. At Durgapur (West Bengal), this plant is also the first such to use heavy wastes like Dolochar & Coal Fines generated at the time of production processes as feed for producing power. With this type of extensive recycling of Solid Wastes and Waste Heat being handled, our firm not only has accessed to the economical source of power for its huge need, but such efforts has enabled our company's commitment to generate Green Power.
The Power Plants are capable for CDM advantages under the Kyoto Protocol. While the Raniganj (West Bengal) Power Plant has already achieved the required approvals for CDM benefits, the one at Durgapur (West Bengal) is in the final levels of getting them. The Carbon Credits we receive will find to serve as an extra source of income to our organization.
